Navigating Pregnancy: 5 Things I Wish I Knew Before Expecting My First Baby
Pregnancy is wild — beautiful, emotional, exhausting, and everything in between. I remember googling everything from “can I eat feta?” to “is this cramping normal?” daily. With each pregnancy, I’ve learned more, but there’s something about that first time: it’s raw, full of unknowns, and unforgettable.
Here are five things I wish someone had told me before I became a mama:
1️⃣ It’s okay to grieve your “old” self
I didn’t expect to miss my independence so much — or feel guilty for it. Your body is changing, your schedule is no longer your own, and your identity is shifting. It doesn’t mean you’re ungrateful. It means you’re human.
2️⃣ The anxiety is real (and you’re not crazy)
Even the most chill women I know were consumed by “what if” thoughts during pregnancy. Your hormones are raging, and everything feels high-stakes. Please know you’re not broken — you’re just growing a human. Talk about it. You’re not alone.
3️⃣ Your registry doesn’t need 200 items
What you actually need: a car seat, diapers, a few footed onesies, and a safe place for baby to sleep. The rest? You’ll figure it out. Focus on what will bring you peace — not what TikTok or Amazon suggests.
4️⃣ Your body is a powerhouse
You will surprise yourself. Whether you’re giving birth with an epidural, going unmedicated, or planning a C-section — your body is doing something incredible. Don’t let anyone make you feel “less than” for how you deliver.
5️⃣ You’re becoming a new version of yourself
The old you isn’t gone — she’s just evolving. And while it’s hard, there’s so much beauty in that transformation. You’re about to meet a whole new version of you — and your baby.
💛 From one mama to another: you’re not alone in this. Be gentle with yourself. You’re doing something amazing.
